I almost started this thread today also.

Thinking that Israel are too short as far as political voting goes.

Eurovision, or Barnsley v Bolton. You must be the first man in recorded history to have weighed those options up

The money really came for her at the end of last week till now, it’s the first time I’d seen her and I thought she was excellent, the staging, the song, the story, whether that’ll appeal to the masses though is the question.

I also thought Ukraine were excellent, no one really knows this year if the juries will go harsh on them or how big/small the televote will be (is everyone sick of war or do they still support them enough to vote over others). Croatia were decent but couldn’t back them at that sort of price, the market views them as the default winner ie does well with both juries and tele, I agree they should be favs but look awfully short.

UK’s staging was good I thought, vocally poor but a catchy enough song, Germany’s staging was dreadful but great song and vocalist so both should avoid last place IMO.

2nd semi final is tomorrow which includes Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and France. The Swiss will do very well with juries, the concern for most is the televote. Italy was viewed as the safe back a month ago, I’ve just never really liked it, the song just never really gets going for me. The Netherlands are going all out for tele but looking at the clips I’m not sure it’s going to land. France is an interesting one, there doesn’t seem to be many good ballads this year, he’ll do well with juries it’s just the tele which again is the worry, is similar to Due Vite last year so not without a chance.

Very difficult year, and won’t take a lot to win it.

I see Ireland started the night at about 14.0, ended up getting to 40.0 somehow, and now back into 13.0.

The YT views from last night:

Croatia 1.3M
Ireland 1.2M
Ukraine 1M
Finland 550k

First time I saw Finland too, think it’ll do quite well with casuals but there are quite a few silly/stupid acts this year

I remember fondly the 70s and 80s when Eurovision used to be a black tie event with world class acts showcasing the music and culture of Europe's countries. Terry Wogan's dry humour also added enormously to the fun.

Sadly, with the exception of the excellent Sam Ryder, it seems to have become a race-to-the-bottom for those who wishing to promote minority agendas.

That Olly nutter is sleazy in the extreme, in a Sam Smith vein. Makes my skin crawl. Seems to tick every box except the talent one.

Latvia through at odds of 8.0, quite incredible as you'd have thought it would've needed jury support but a lovely song. Belgium the shock exit, they were matched at 13.0 to win the contest a couple months back
