Dubai World Cup Racing

Dubai World Cup Racing

Saturday sees one of the world’s richest horse races take place at Meydan, the Dubai World Cup.

Over the years I’ve moved from dabbling in the Meydan markets to doing them seriously. They often make for a useful addition on a dull Thursday in the UK during the winter.

I’ll often recommend a dabble in these markets if the volume is holding up and there is no clashing with other races. As for the big race itself, the World Cup, it must be one of few where the prize money dwarfs the turnover on Betfair!

Betfair trading the World Cup

I once got a fantastic result from this race of over £1k, but I’ve also lost money trading the World Cup. I think it’s best to say my results have been ‘mixed’ here!

The race trades in a similar manner to UK racing but the money tends to be a little steadier overtime. It’s often not as erratic as some of the similar volume UK markets can be.

Over time the race has received varying levels of attention on Betfair at one point matching nearly £1.5m in turnover. But last year it matched less than £300k. I think it’s one of the trickest races to call in terms of how it will trade.

In 2015 it traded just £434k, but jumped dramatically to £1.3m the following year. I really have little idea as to how much it will match this year.

The big race this year is scheduled for 16:35, which is likely to clash with the racing closer to home. I’d much prefer a time after the UK racing which I have had before. When I achieved my massive restul, the timing made the start of the race fall outside of any UK racing. That was very helpful in terms of focusing liquidity on this big race.

When I got my massive total, it just happened that everything fell into place perfectly. I’m not expecting a repeat this year, but I usually pull something useful out of the race and the card this Saturday.

That’s why I recommend you have a look, as it will be a contributor to my total on Saturday.

Here is hoping that this year is favourable.
